Your requested listing of all records of type Military Records returned records in 2 table(s)...

Name of Table:  Williams' Who Served in the Confederate Army (View Records!)
Table Description:  This is the index of all Williams' that served in the Confederacy during the Civil War. This information was compiled from a number of sources including the book "The Roster of Confederate Soldiers 1861-1865, Volume XVI", edited by Janet B. Hewett and published by Broadfoot Publishing Co. Wilmington, NC, 1996 as well as the National Park Service's "Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System". The information listed here includes the name of the soldier, the state and unit in which they served and when available, their rank at discharge. There is a companion Abbreviation List that defines all of the abbreviations used here. Finally, as time permits and pending other contributions, images of the pensions for these soldiers will also be placed here.

Name of Table:  World War I - Draft Registration Cards (View Records!)
Table Description:  A note about these cards. This was a monumental effort that was begun a few years ago by Ray Banks, who has given me permission to copy them here. The project was discontinued, unfinished, a short while ago for various reasons. Therefore, these cards only cover about 10% of U. S. counties. When looking through these, keep in mind that registering for the draft is not the same as induction into the military. These are very similar to the Selective Service cards that young men today must fill out.

Some important points to remember:

(1) that birth info is not always correct. The birth day on the card is more reliable than the birth year.
(2) that the majority of these registrants never went into the military.
(3) that those already in the military did not register.

Microfilm copies of the original cards are maintained by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Days Saints (LDS...the Mormons)..Researchers can probably order loaner copies of specific reels from Salt Lake City through requests at local LDS family history centers. Catalog subject heading UNITED STATES -- MILITARY RECORDS -- WORLD WAR I.

Original cards are kept at the National Archives branch near Atlanta, Georgia. http://www.archives.gov/facilities/ga/atlanta.html
